3 Reasons Why You Are Not Closing Enough Sales

aka How to Attract More Clients Who Are Interested in Working With You

Maybe you love selling and talking to people about your business can feel enjoyable but some of us can feel really nervous when talking to someone about what we do and how much we charge for it.

There can be many reasons why you don’t close enough sales in your business but I want to share with you 3 main reasons I see that entrepreneurs struggle with.

1. Lack of Confidence

Yep, you are not confident in selling your stuff. It can be because:

  • you don’t feel like you provide a value to your clients,

  • you don’t believe in what you are doing

  • You are not clear about your offer and what you are doing in your business

  • or there can be something deeper behind that (like limiting beliefs such as I am not worth charging to my clients, I am not good enough, etc.).

Let me tell you a secret. If you don’t believe in what you are doing you can’t sell it. Why would anybody believe you and buy your stuff if YOU don’t believe in what you are doing? Would you go to a dentist who is super nervous and seems to not know whether she/he is a good dentist? “Yeah, erm, I think I am quite good in tooth drilling... but well... yeah I am alright, I guess...” Probably not!

2. Lack of Authenticity

Whether you speak with your clients over the phone or face to face, be authentic. Why? Because if you try to be someone else, you will be nervous hence you won’t be confident and people can feel that.

Your clients buy your stuff but they are “buying you” as well. Remember, that you don’t have to be like other folks in your industry.

Just BE YOU because people like to see who you really are.

I teach my clients to look at sales as an authentic conversation. You won’t be talking with your potential client about the weather for 20 minutes because you feel like it. Obviously, you will have some structure in place for the sales conversation. However, be relaxed when talking to potential clients and show them real you.

If you like to throw a joke every now and then, do it, if it’s natural to you and it is appropriate. Learn to read and be sensitive of the situation, for example, I can’t imagine a divorce coach saying the following joke to someone who is very upset, “Hey, do you know what a hurricane, a tornado, a fire, and a divorce have in common? They are four ways you can lose your house! Ha ha”.

You know what I mean, right?

If you are an energetic person, be energetic when talking to people. If you are a very calm person, be calm. Don’t try to follow a sales script which doesn’t feel good. Be authentic whatever it means to you.

3. Lack of Conviction

You have to be CONVINCED about what you are selling and what results you can deliver to your clients. Try not to be arrogant but talk to your potential clients in a way that reassures them of your abilities, for example, “I am 100% sure that I can help you,” and be honest when saying that!

I believe that conviction comes with results. In other words, you will be more and more convinced about your services when you start seeing results that your clients get from working with you.

I hope I have planted a few seeds in your business brain and this will help you to think about what you might like to improve in order to close more sales.
